Compensation: $18/hour, 35 hours/week

Position Summary 
The Production Assistant supports a wide range of public programs and initiatives at The Bentway, helping to connect diverse audiences with our mission and activities. Working across community engagement, outreach, and event production, the Production Assistant contributes to building strong relationships with communities, partners, and visitors, while assisting with the planning and delivery of events, installations, workshops, and other cultural experiences in public space. 
 
This role collaborates closely with multiple departments and external stakeholders, serving as an ambassador for The Bentway and helping to promote, implement, and support programs that engage the public and foster meaningful participation.

The Bentway Conservancy is a non-profit organization and registered charity that works closely with the City of Toronto, artists & creatives, and local communities to bring our work to life. 

Responsibilities  
Program & Event Delivery 

  • Assist with planning and executing public programs and events, including installations, performances, workshops, and programming, including Art Socials, Roller Skate Lessons / Party, TRCA Eco Workshops, Dino Runs, and Transform the Trail 
  • Coordinate schedules, site visits, checklists, and other logistical documentation. 
  • Assist with preparing site maps, permits, contracts, and other program-related documents. 
  • Support financial administration, including invoices and payment tracking. 
  • Provide onsite customer service and assist with ensuring safe, accessible visitor experiences, including crowd flow and hazard identification. 
  • Support inquiries related to program rentals and external partner logistics. 
  • Liaising with artists and programming partners to capture all of their needs for the events 
  • Coordinating event logistics, drafting run of show documents for all events and circulating relevant information to all event stakeholders. 
  • Sourcing and purchasing materials to execute The Bentway's summer programming 
  • Serving as onsite Event Assistant to Support event load-in, execution, and load-out, including set-up of tables, equipment, signage, etc. 
  • Signing in registrants of Bentway programs tracking attendance, and taking care of any venue or artist needs during the event. 
  • Assisting The Bentway's Production team in researching and prototyping art installations for The Bentway's upcoming fall and winter seasons. 

Community Outreach & Engagement 

  • Serve as a public-facing ambassador for The Bentway at events, community meetings, and onsite engagement touchpoints. 
  • Conduct audience surveys and assist with onsite data collection. 

Administration & Internal Collaboration 

  • Collaborate with departments such as Communications, Programming, Finance, Development, and Operations to coordinate timelines and deliverables. 
  • Assist with data tracking, reporting, and other operational needs. 
  • Perform other duties related to site operations and programming support, as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable engaging with a wide range of audiences. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions. 
  • Comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. 
  • Experience or interest in arts, culture, event production, or community programming. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and willingness to learn other digital platforms. 
  • Current standard level First Aid/CPR-C is an asset. 

Eligibility Requirements 
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. To qualify, applicants must: 

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period 
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment. Student visas or other forms of work visas are not eligable.
  • Valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations 

The federal government will require proof of all these qualifications upon hiring.
