Start date: November 19, 2025 
Compensation: $25/hour

Position Summary 
 
The Facilities Operator is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day site operations at our dynamic, year-round public space — known for our Skate Trail    
   
Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor, the Facilities Operator will focus on ice maintenance & resurfacing, refrigeration equipment, and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all site guests.    
   
The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors and getting their hands dirty with a variety of projects. Along with a strong customer service background and a commitment to providing exceptional visitor experiences for all Bentway visitors. 
   
Preference will be given to candidates with a Certified Ice Technician (CIT) designation or prior experience in ice resurfacing operations, that can supervise the operations of our winter skate trail. However, individuals with extensive facility management experience, even without the CIT designation, are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities  
 
Facility maintenance 
  • Operation and maintenance of arena surfaces, equipment and refrigeration 
  • Ice resurface maintenance, including changing blades, towel, board brush, etc 
  • Data recording of refrigeration logbook, propane logs, cleaning checklists, circle checks, ice maintenance log, cleaning supplies, and opening and closing logs 
  • Janitorial tasks: sweeping, mopping, washing windows, cleaning and sanitizing washrooms, picking up litter, emptying garbage receptacles and ensuring general site cleanliness 
  • Under supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, assist in executing planned site maintenance, repairs and minor installations (including basic landscape, electrical, plumbing, painting, mechanical and general carpentry work). 
  • Under supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, perform basic landscaping and grounds keeping duties such as mowing the grass, basic garden maintenance, clearing snow, maintaining pathways and perimeters as required 
  • Maintaining and cleaning tools and equipment  
  • Assist with the completion of logs and check lists 
  • Other duties as assigned related to the operation of the Bentway site.  
 
Customer service / event work 
  • Serve as a front-line customer service representative for visitors and other members of the public.  
  • Assist with set up and tear down of programs, events and activations  
 
 
Qualifications 
  • 2 years of experience with arena and ice maintenance and all associated equipment considered an asset 
  • Experience in janitorial maintenance, grounds keeping, garden maintenance, or customer service is considered an asset 
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, and weekends in varied weather conditions.  
  • Must be able to perform frequent standing, bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, squatting, climbing, reaching and grasping 
  • Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 50lbs  
  • Willing to work safely and to follow all required protocols  
  • Have a G license  
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a team environment and communicate with our visitors.  
  • Standard First Aid is considered an asset
